Let’s chat bubbly …

Let’s talk about bubblies …

I am a massive fan of Champagne as well as any other sparkling wines, so I thought I’d talk about it this week.

There are 3 names well known sparkling wines? well there’s actually more, but those three are the most popular ones that you will find absolutely everywhere!

French Champagne, Italian Prosecco, Spanish Cava

So?!! Which one is the best?

Well,

I wouldn’t be FRENCHGIRLINDUBLIN and tell you Champagne isn’t the best! Obviously!

For me to be partial when it comes to comparing French products like Champagne, or any other products it is very hard. but I’ll try my best.

Most people call sparkling wine Champagne, but not all are Champagnes.

CHAMPAGNE is a sparkling wine made in France.

The only sparkling wines allowed to carry the name Champagne have to be made in the Champagne region in France, it is made from specific grapes too (Pinot Noir , Pinot Meunier, or Chardonnay)

It is said that Champagne was inventd by a Monk called Dom Perignon in the (veuve) Cliquot distillery. Those names ring a bell? It should, house 2 names are still to date the most famous French ‘Champagne houses’ – very tasty, but madly expensive, even more here in Ireland.

Also methods vary from one sparkling wine to another, the way actual French champagne is made is called the ‘methode champenoise’

Also, Let’s not forget that Champagne was the original sparkling wine, the 1st invented -I am little proud of this one

PROSECCO is Italy’s most widely known sparkling wine. and often people’s second best known sparkling wine.

The method to make prosecco is very different from the way French Champagne is made, while Cava is made in the same way French Champagne is.

Prosecco has a tendency to be a little sweeter than Champagne or Cava, with bigger bubbles.

CAVA is Spain version of sparkling wine. Cava is made from specific grapes too (Macabeu, Parellada, Xarello, as well as Pinot and Chardonnay grapes)

Even though Cava is more around the price range of Prosecco, wayyyyy cheaper than Champagne. When it comes to way it is made and its taste, it is a lot more similar to champagne.

last little thing, let’s remember that on a night out champagne holds a lot less carolies than other drinks, so you can be fancy, and stay skinny.

95 calories per drink!!

Champagne, will always be my first choice, but here in Ireland it is a pricey drink. It might be easier and more affordable to drink prosecco.

Truth is, and this pains me to tell you this, but if you test people, make them try the 3 drinks, expensive & cheap options of champagne, prosecco and Cava … 70% of the population cannot tell the difference.

And now a few photos that prove my love for champagne!

Ok, it is thursday, so I don’t know about you but I am totally planning on having some bubbly tonight & tomorrow
