I wasn’t going to talk about ‘mental health’ this week, but then decided since ‘World Mental Health Day’ was this week (October 10th) I thought it was an important subject to talk about.
It upsets me that we have to pick a day for THIS! It is something that we should care about everyday of our lives, recently (at work) we were sent an email to remind us of mental health day and on what options were available to us in case of struggle
I have to be honest, it disturbed me, felt like a box was ticked, not like it is an everyday matter
And having gone through a burn-out all on my own recently, with barely any help, or support from my entourage it make me think that people do not care about those matters that much.
We obviously live in a world where people are very much centered on themselves, nothing new here.
But what needs to happen for people to care & help each other.
I wonder sometimes.
So YES this subject means a lot to me. I do not have depression (never have) and I am not particularly anxious, I was put in a very unhealthy situation with no help to get it resolved, not quickly enough anyways
Did I break down YES!
Let’s remember a thing or two though.
-
Strong people break too
-
After people break, they get back up stronger
World Mental Health Day (10 October) is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.
It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental healthorganization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.
Depression and anxiety disorders are common mental disorders that have an impact on our ability to work, and to work productively. It can be triggered by events, or even people’s behavior towards you and others. Yes bullies can trigger such disorders.
Honestly I am one of those who believe that everyday should me ‘Mental health day awareness’
Since we live in a society obsessed with celebrities maybe we should listen to what they have to say on the matter.
Mental illness should be treated like any other illness, they make people unable to live normally, it is a constant battle; also do not be the reason someone breaks down, be kind to others you have no idea what they are going through.
